MAC Alliance and The Eastern Technology Council Agree to Merge
The Mac Alliance, an affiliate of the Chamber and the region’s catalyst organization for companies and capital, and the Eastern Technology Council, the region’s largest technology and life sciences trade association, last week announced a definitive agreement to merge, to create a strategic hub for facilitating the growth and success of technology and life sciences companies in the Greater Philadelphia region. Both organizations’ Boards of Directors have approved the merger.
Dean Miller, a partner at Novitas Capital, will be the CEO of the new organization into 2011. Both Carolyn Maher, Executive Director of the MAC Alliance, and Dianne Strunk, CEO of the Eastern Technology Council, will remain a part of the executive staff. Frank Hermance, Chairman and CEO of Ametek, Inc. will serve as Chairman. The new organization, which will be an affiliate of, and housed in, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, will be officially launched in June 2010 under a new name.
The merger combines two strong organizations that share the common goal of fostering the entrepreneurial culture of the region. The newly merged organization will offer a comprehensive approach to supporting a company’s life cycle – from early stage through growth – by facilitating interaction, information and education. The organization will provide a single, strategic hub where key resources including investors, strategic partners, professional advisors and peers are available and accessible. The new organization will support its membership through a wide variety of services, programs and tools, including: educational programs, networking events, conferences, mentoring programs and resources.
The Executive Committee of the new organization has been appointed and includes: Michael Forman, Managing General Partner, FB Capital Partners; Frank Hermance, Chairman and CEO, Ametek, Inc.; Marc R. Lederman, General Partner, NewSpring Ventures; Dean E. Miller, Managing Director, Novitas Capital; Charles Robins, Managing Director, Fairmount Partners; Kathleen M. Shay, Partner, Duane Morris LLP. A new Board of Directors will be finalized soon.
