Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell to Receive The Fifth "Building a Better Future" Award

The British American Business Council of Greater Philadelphia is pleased to announce that Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell will receive the Fifth “Building a Better Future” Award for a luncheon on March 24 at the Union League of Philadelphia.

The award is given to a member of the community who makes significant contributions to promoting business development within the state, country and across the Atlantic. Throughout his years of service to our state, Governor Rendell has made unprecedented investments in key industries, powering the future of the global economy, and has developed more cross-border projects than any other state.

With over 1,400 foreign companies investing in the Keystone State, Pennsylvania is America’s fastest growing state in international business development.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Pennsylvania exports increased from $15.3 billion in 2002 to $32 billion in 2008. In response to the value of Pennsylvania’s exports, which has doubled since the start of his administration, Governor Rendell insists that it is “vital that we persist in helping Pennsylvania businesses explore exporting opportunities throughout the world. Helping them find new business opportunities creates new jobs for our hardworking men and women."

In partnership with UK Trade & Investment, the British American Business Council looks forward to recognizing Governor Rendell and celebrating his achievements.

"The British American Business Council’s goal is to increase transatlantic business development and connect members of both communities," says Sheryl Rothberg, executive director of the British American Business Council. "Governor Rendell understands the importance of this business relationship and has been dedicated to ensuring that Pennsylvania continues to reach outside its borders. For this, we are proud to recognize our global ambassador, Governor Ed Rendell."

The British American Business Council of Greater Philadelphia serves to promote increased trade and investment between the UK and Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware. The council facilitates social and commercial interaction for the benefit of the individual, the corporation and the region in which we operate.

Located in Center City Philadelphia, the BABC is an affiliate of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and is supported by major businesses in the region. The BABC builds a transatlantic business network, currently representing over 250 companies and individuals.

Past recipients of this award include: Jean-Pierre Garnier, GlaxoSmithKline; HRH Prince Andrew, The Duke of York; John Kyees, Urban Outfitters; Rachel Brydon-Jannetta, Severn Trent Laboratories, Inc.; Leonard Graziano, Severn Trent Services; Ed Ryan, Citizens Bank; Robert Roche, Cephalon; and Graham Broyd, Royal Bank of Scotland.
